The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed to install CCTVs in public transport compulsorily. The Ministry of Home Affairs, in a letter to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, has instructed to install CCTVs and arrange disabled-friendly ramps (stairs) to make public transport vehicles safe and disabled-friendly.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had taken a secretary-level decision on this matter on 17th May. The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed to install CCTV in public transport within a month to make the safety of passengers in vehicles more reliable and to monitor incidents of mistreatment of passengers by other passengers. The home has also written correspondence to the district administration office and police office across the country for necessary monitoring and implementation.
Transportation businessmen have said that they cannot implement this policy brought by the Ministry of Home Affairs without any discussion with them. Due to this policy, the businessmen have protested that the financial burden will increase. General Secretary of Public Transport Central Federation of Nepal Bharat Nepal informed that the new policy issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs cannot be implemented. According to him, according to the new policy of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the financial burden of at least 2 lakh rupees will be added to install CCTV and stairs.
