Minister of Health and Population Pradeep Paudel has inaugurated the metabolic disease testing service for newborns in a program on Sunday.
Hereditary disease testing (Metabolic Disease Testing) service for newborns has started at the Charity Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital (Maternity) located in Thapathali, Kathmandu.
While inaugurating the service, Minister Paudel mentioned that the Ministry has the idea of expanding other services in hospitals that have gained fame in the country, such as the maternity hospital, and this start is a link to that.
“We still have a lot of work to do to reduce child mortality,” he said.
Minister Poudel informed that the hospital is going to add 20 beds to the ICU, and expressed his belief that this will bring much relief to the mothers and babies who need it most.
Minister Paudel also inaugurated the outpatient service for pregnant women in the hospital. He said, ‘We are working on how to increase the service to improve the health of mothers and babies. This is only possible if all sectors work together. I urge everyone active in this field for cooperation.’
Minister Poudel said that he had heard complaints about the lack of sufficient manpower in the hospital and that he would start efforts to solve it as soon as he came to the ministry and for the time being he would assign doctors who had studied on scholarships.
