The Ministry of Home Affairs has clarified that national identity card is not mandatory to receive social security allowance. Today, issuing a notification, the ministry has informed that all 753 local levels have been sent a letter about this.
“The Government of Nepal decided to make National Identity Card (NID) mandatory for providing social security services on June 24, 2081 and published a notice in the gazette dated June 10, 2081. Due to continuous rains across the country, floods, landslides and disaster situations have been created in many places. As it has become inconvenient for the citizens who receive it to make a national identity card, the Ministry of Home Affairs will be instructed not to make the national identity card mandatory for this purpose,” said the circular issued by the registration department.
