Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has said that free medicines and quality treatment will be provided to sickle cell anemia patients.
Inaugurating the state-of-the-art ‘Operation Theater’ set up at Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj today, Minister Poudel expressed the government’s commitment to not allow any deficiency in the treatment of sickle cell and thalassemia patients. He said, ‘Separate wards will be arranged for these patients in the provincial hospitals of seven provinces.
He said, “Sickle cell medicine will be sent to all hospitals that have established wards for the treatment of sickle cell disease, from where it will be distributed to patients as per their needs.”
Informing that a correspondence has been sent to the Indian government to request medicine for sickle cell patients and it is in the final stage, Minister Poudel said that all the procedures have been completed after India agreed to provide the medicine.
Stating that the government is continuing various activities for the treatment of patients, Minister Poudel pointed out the need to regularly conduct various awareness-raising programs to prevent and protect against diseases.
At the program, Dr. Nirajan Subedi, Medical Superintendent of Bheri Hospital, Dr. Rajan Pandey, a senior physician involved in the treatment of sickle cell anemia for a long time, and Prabhuram Tharu, President of Sickle Cell Society Nepal, among others, shared their views on the condition of sickle cell, treatment, and solutions to the problem.
