Kathmandu- Recently, Model and Dancer Swasthani Tamang has reached the peak of popularity. She is only 21 years old, but within a short time, she has become widely admired and loved by many. Since childhood, she has been passionate about dancing and dreams of winning the hearts of everyone. Being the eldest daughter in her family, more responsibilities fell upon her shoulders. She started working at the age of 15, which gradually helped improve her family’s financial condition. Due to their weak economic background, her journey forward was very challenging. Her school principal, Ghanendra Bhattarai Sir, encouraged her to participate in reality shows.
Following the path shown by actress Mithila Sharma and Mahesh Godar Sir, she achieved the title of Best Dancer in the first category. Through SEE Dance Champion, she received a scholarship and is currently pursuing her studies in Grades 11/12 and her Bachelor’s degree. Alongside education, she is equally determined to grow in the field of dance and performing arts. She is ready to work day and night to achieve success in the arts.
No matter what challenges life throws at her, she believes in moving forward with patience and hard work without hesitation. Professionally, she is also a dance teacher, teaching in various schools in Kathmandu. She is also a brown belt karate player. At present, she has been performing at different festivals, corporate events, and award shows. She says, “I want to move ahead with hard work and discipline.” Through her art, she wishes to represent Nepal to the world. She is also deeply interested in acting in films and dreams of becoming a successful actress in the future. She has gained acting knowledge by attending workshops in different theatres. She is now seeking her future in the Nepali film industry and says, “I want to dedicate my life to the field of art. I am moving forward with struggle as my main principle.”
What are you busy with these days?
These days, I work as a dance teacher in some schools. I am busy with regular dance practice as well as corporate events, festivals, and award programs.
How important is it to learn acting?
Education plays a very important role in life. To succeed in any field, knowledge is necessary. If someone says, “I want to become an artist,” then knowledge of acting is essential. The things we learn in life never go to waste. Today, there are theatres and film colleges available to learn acting. Just like science is essential to become a doctor, acting knowledge is a must for an aspiring artist.
How do you see your future in the arts?
Since student life, I have been winning school dance competitions. From a young age, I would get excited at the mention of dance. I sincerely thank my teachers and mentors, for their hard work is the reason I am here today. To make myself the best, I am working day and night. I see my future in the arts as bright and prosperous.
What kind of dance do you enjoy performing?
As an artist, it is necessary to have knowledge of all forms of dance. Cultural dance, contemporary dance, Bollywood dance—knowledge of every form is important. I want to be known as a versatile dancer.
What would you say to those who think there is no future in the arts?
To pursue a career in the arts, patience, hard work, and discipline are very important. Nowadays, one can see a future in every field. It may take time, but with effort, you will surely reach your destination. If you don’t succeed, you should not be discouraged—you must continue trying. Today, many artists have built houses, bought land, cars, and even accumulated bank balances through the arts. How can anyone say there is no future in this field? In life, you should never give up; success is always around you. Don’t search for the future—create it.
Do you plan to enter the Nepali film industry?
Since childhood, I wanted to be an artist, so I prepared myself to step into this field. I really like Nepali films. With my art and skills, I want to move ahead. I am fully prepared. If I get a good script and a good team, I will definitely act in films.
Lastly, what message would you like to give to the youth?
No one knows when life will end. To make life memorable, one must always remain happy. Failure should never discourage you. Hard work always pays off. Life is a cycle. It is important to accept every challenge with positivity. Most of us spend our early life sleeping through opportunities. Time is powerful, and we must make proper use of it. We should reveal our inner talents, do the work we love, and not live under anyone’s pressure or influence. Life should be meaningful.
