1 Million Teenage Girls Get Vaccinated with HPV

The cervical cancer vaccination campaign began on Magh 22, and by Magh 29, one million teenage girls had received the HPV vaccine free of charge.

According to the Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services, 1016,771 teenage girls have been vaccinated against HPV in the seven days since the campaign began. Province-wise, 181,050 girls have been vaccinated in Koshi Province, 148,056 girls in Madhesh Province, and 196,074 girls in Bagmati Province.

Similarly, the ministry’s data shows that 86,112 girls in Gandaki Province, 189,877 in Lumbini Province, 82,796 in Karnali Province, and 132,804 in Sudurpaschim Province have been vaccinated against HPV.
The government is conducting an HPV vaccination campaign from Magh 22 to Falgun 6, targeting girls in grades 6 to 10 and 1,688,786 girls aged 10 to 14 who are not attending school.

Doctors say that HPV vaccination is effective if administered in early adolescence. Doctors suggest that the vaccine given in the campaign is safe and should be administered with confidence. Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed happiness saying that the HPV vaccination campaign is being conducted with enthusiasm and more than one million people have been vaccinated.
