Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Juventus, head coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed.

On Thursday, The Athletic reported that Ronaldo’s representatives held talks with Manchester City over a possible transfer to the English champions.

In light of Ronaldo’s revelation, Allegri also said he will not select the Portuguese forward for Saturday’s Serie A match against Empoli.

Allegri said: “Yesterday, Cristiano told me that he no longer has any intention to play for Juventus. For this reason, he will not be called up for tomorrow’s game.

“Cristiano is to be thanked for what he has done, also as an example amongst the youngsters. But as I said, we must go on.”

It is understood Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, met with Juventus on Thursday morning. At that meeting, Ronaldo’s future was discussed.

A deal has not yet been agreed with either Ronaldo or Juventus for a move.

Speaking later on Friday, the manager of Ronaldo’s former club, Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Cristiano is a legend of this club, the greatest player of all time if you ask me. I was fortunate enough to play with him. I coached him when I got my job. Let’s see what happens.”

Allegri also confirmed his desire for United States midfielder Weston McKennie to remain at the club, amid speculation over his future.
