With the onset of winter, domestic demand for electricity has increased.
According to the NEA, this year’s peak demand for electricity has increased by an average of 300 MW as compared to last year. Work is being done in accordance with the policy of increasing the use of electronic equipment and providing the required amount of electricity to the industries to increase the consumption of domestically generated electricity.

Consumption is increasing on a daily basis due to increasing use of electric home appliances including electric stoves, air conditioners and providing sufficient electricity to big industries. NEA has provided 30 MW of electricity to Hongshi, Nepal’s largest cement industry, since the end of October. Demand for electricity has also skyrocketed in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas. The maximum demand for electricity in Kathmandu Valley has increased by an average of 90 MW. The peak demand of Kathmandu Valley, which was 293 MW last year, has reached 382 MW this year. NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising said that the increase in peak demand by 30 percent this year as compared to last year was a great achievement.
