Dipak Thapa has been appointed as the 31st Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nepal Police.
The cabinet meeting held in Baluwatar decided to appoint Thapa as the police chief. Thapa was appointed after IGP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar went on compulsory leave from 12 midnight tonight.
AIG Thapa, director of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Sudip Giri, chief of the National Police Training Academy, and Tek Bahadur Tamang, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, were in the running to become the IGP. However, Thapa was appointed.
They were promoted to the rank of police inspector on Bhadra 19, 2052. Giri and Tamang were promoted to AIG two weeks after Thapa became AIG. Thapa will remain in service as IGP until Bhadra 19, 2082.
