Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said that the damage caused by natural disasters can be minimized if awareness of disaster response can be raised to the grassroots level.
Speaking at a program organized by the Hikaru Gautam Foundation in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Speaker Ghimire said that natural disasters cause huge losses of property and lives in Nepal every year, and that the damage can be minimized if awareness of disaster response is raised to the grassroots level. He noted that Nepal is currently facing the serious impact of climate change.
Speaker Ghimire said that the government’s efforts alone are not enough to mitigate disasters, and stressed the need for cooperation among all. He said that the incidents of buses submerged in Simal Lake and the jeep carrying Home Minister Madhav Ghimire were difficult natural disasters that are still unexplained.
