Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has said that federalism is necessary in Nepal but is burdensome.

Speaking at the ‘Province-level review of the Tuberculosis-Free Nepal Campaign Program’ organized by the Madhesh Institute of Health Sciences at Janakpurdham on Thursday, Health Minister Poudel said that he was not against federalism and that federalism with only ministers did not make sense.

Health Minister Poudel also argued that there is no federalism with more than 500 MPs. He argued that despite having a three-tier government, it seems like there is a government of three countries. He argued that there is a feeling at the provincial and local levels that resources are needed from the federation and that cooperation on other issues is not possible. He stressed that the three tiers of governments should work together within federalism. He said that all three tiers of government are formed to serve the same citizen and that cooperation is necessary between the federation, provinces and local levels.
