Former King Gyanendra Shah speaks via video message two weeks after violent protests in Tinkune

He also responded to the Tinkune incident by releasing a video message on New Year’s Eve.

“It is a beautiful feature of democracy that different parties, classes and groups of people in society are able to express their views and opinions,” he said. “Everyone should exercise restraint when presenting such views and beliefs. But we were saddened to hear about the kind of violence, arson and vandalism that took place during the public demonstration a few days ago, and the kind of human and material damage that was caused by this.”

Similarly, he said that the awareness created among the people is positive. ‘There is no greater system or principle than civil liberties. Real democracy exists where there is a tradition and culture of listening to public complaints, good and bad. The kind of awareness that has been created among the Nepali people about the country and its future. We have taken this positively,’ he said.

On Chaitra 15, a demonstration by supporters of former King Shah erupted, resulting in widespread arson, vandalism, and looting. Journalist Suresh Rajak was killed when royalists set houses on fire, and a protester died on the street.

He also expressed his confidence that the desired results of the Nepali people will be achieved in 2082.
