On Ashad Shukla Purnima day, Gayatri, Deeksha, Gurupurnima festival is being celebrated by showing respect to Gurus who recite Veda mantras and teach.

‘Gu’ means darkness and ‘Ru’ means light. A person who destroys darkness and spreads light in life is called Guru. Our scriptures consider such gurus as Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar.

Vyasa Jayanti

Today, Vyasa Jayanti is also celebrated in memory of Ved Vyas who composed 18 Puranas and 18 Upa Puranas in simple Sanskrit language to explain the meaning of the Vedas by dividing them into four parts namely Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda. As Ved Vyasa was born on the day of Ashad Shukla Purnima, Vyasa Jayanti is celebrated on this day. Vyasa tried to convey such a message through Puranas and Upapuranas.
