About 92 percent of teenage girls have been vaccinated in the government-run HPV vaccination campaign against cervical cancer.
According to Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, Chief of the Child Health and Vaccination Branch of the Department of Health Services, 92 teenage girls have been vaccinated during the campaign. The vaccination campaign, which began on Magh 22, ended on Tuesday.
According to Gautam, 1,428,889 adolescent girls have been vaccinated during the campaign. The campaign had a target of 1,688,786 adolescent girls being vaccinated. He also informed that adolescent girls who are exempted from vaccination will be taken to health institutions.
The government had launched a vaccination campaign for girls in grades 6 to 10 and out-of-school age groups of 10 to 14 to protect them from cervical cancer. Statistics show that four women die from cervical cancer every day in Nepal.
