Minister for Education, Science and Technology Bidya Bhattarai has announced that she will resign from her post if the School Education Bill is not passed.
Addressing the first provincial council meeting of the Nepal National Teachers’ Organization, a sister organization of the CPN (UML), on Thursday, she said that she took office to bring the Education Act.
She said that she did not become a minister to get something and earn something. “If the School Education Act is not passed, if the bill is not passed, I will resign. I stayed to bring the bill. If I think I cannot, I will not stay,” she said.
Bhattarai also claimed that the upcoming budget will resolve the problems of Early Child Development Centers (ECDs) and school staff, including salaries. She said that a task force is being formed in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Supply to study the issue of providing free drinking water in community schools, and that she has also initiated discussions to provide free electricity and internet in schools.
