India is Not in Favor of Monarchy Says Sher Bahadur Deuba

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that neighboring country India is not in favor of restoring the monarchy in Nepal and does not support the monarchist movement.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Contribution of former Indian Prime Minister Chandrashekhar Ji to Strengthen Nepal-India Relations’ organized by the Ganeshman Singh Foundation in Kathmandu on Monday, President Deuba said that the rumor that India was promoting the restoration of the monarchy in Nepal was false.

Deuba also said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had already visited the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi and clarified that he was not in favor of returning to the monarchy.

“There are also rumors that India is pushing for the restoration of the monarchy again. Adityanath’s photo was even printed here,” Deuba said, “But what I know is that Adityaji has gone to our embassy in India and said that I have no hand in it. Whatever the Nepali people want, that’s what they get. I am not in favor of bringing in a king.”

Deuba said that former Indian Prime Minister Chandrashekhar had a great contribution in establishing democracy in Nepal.
