The Nepali Congress has retained its victory in the Mayor post of Kirtipur Municipality of Kathmandu, which has been made a matter of prestige by political parties.
According to the final results of the by-election held on Sunday, Congress candidate Krishnaman Dangol has won. The counting of votes in Kirtipur has been completed only recently.
The Election Commission is yet to formally announce the results.
Earlier, Congress had won the local level elections here in 079. At that time, Congress candidate Rajkumar Nakarmi got 9,043 votes.
At that time, CPN-UML candidate Kesh Ratna Bajracharya was in second place with 5,507 votes.
Even then, the Maoists made Shiv Sharan their candidate. He got 4,090 votes at that time.
