The Ministry of Health and Population is going to promote the policy of ‘one hospital, one blood transfusion center’ to improve the easy availability and quality of blood.
Currently, there is a lack of coordination between blood transfusion centers and hospitals. In the past, the blood transfusion centers operated by the Nepal Red Cross Society were not able to operate continuously, so there was a shortage of blood from time to time.
Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel informed that the policy of ‘one hospital, one blood transfusion center’ has been introduced to solve the problem of blood quality.
Minister Paudel said, ‘The rate of blood donation is very low and it is necessary to encourage common citizens in this direction.’
A committee will be formed
The ministry is going to form a separate committee to determine the quality and standards of blood. The committee will monitor the management and standards of blood collection centers and submit a report within a month.
Although the Public Health Service Regulations, 2077 make blood transfusion services compulsory in hospitals with a capacity of more than 25 beds, currently even many big hospitals send patients to other blood transfusion centers.
