Federal MPs have discussed the dangers of landmines and explosives.
The Ban Landmines Campaign Nepal ( NCBL ) organized a debate to end the dangers of landmines and explosives by inviting members of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly in the capital Kathmandu on Friday.
It is said that an interaction program was organized on parliamentary stance and policy frameworks to end the dangers of landmines and explosives on Friday.
About one and a half dozen MPs from CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, CPN-Integrated Socialist Party, and Democratic Samajwadi Party participated in the interactive program. Federal MPs Metmani Chaudhary, Narayani Sharma, Amritlal Rajwanshi, Tulsa Dahal, Ran Kumari Magar, Shanti Chaudhary, Chhiring Dorje Lama, Ashma Chaudhary, Shobha Gyawali, Menka Pokharel, Surya Kumari Shrestha, Sumitra VC, Shanti Shrestha were present.
The program was attended by senior officers of Nepal Army, Armed Police, Nepal Police. On behalf of the Nepal Army, the officer gave information about landmines and explosives and their dangers. On this occasion, the officers of all the three security agencies emphasized on the need to spread awareness among the general public about the dangers of explosives and mines.
Speaking at the interactive program, the members of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly said that landmines and explosives are exploding from time to time and the state and security agencies should be more aware and knowledgeable about this. It was emphasized that the state should take a long-term solution as unarmed common people will lose their lives due to such incidents.
Speaking at the event, Metmani Chaudhary, a member of the House of Representatives of Dang 1, who is also the chief whip of CPN Unified Socialists, emphasized that even though the country has been declared a landmine-free country, the country is not completely free from the threat of explosive materials, and emphasized that necessary steps should be taken to formulate a policy in this direction.
In the program, it was informed that only after 2081 years, explosive substances were found in 12 places across the country as remnants of the crime.
Purnashoba Chitrakar, the founder of Ban Landmines Campaign Nepal ( NCBL ) said that the program was organized to decide the parliamentary stance and policy frameworks to end the dangers of land mines and explosives and that such debates and discussion programs will be continued in the future.
