Parsa- The Nepali Congress Madhesh Province Committee has officially recommended young leader Rakesh Yadav as a candidate for the House of Representatives (direct election) from Parsa Constituency No. 2, marking a significant moment for Gen-Z representation within the party.

The recommendation comes after Yadav’s name was initially excluded by both the regional and district party committees, which had forwarded only three senior leaders—former minister Ajay Kumar Chaurasia, former Constituent Assembly member Rajendra Bahadur Amatya, and Madan Yadav.

Province Steps In After District-Level Exclusion

Following his exclusion, Rakesh Yadav submitted a formal application on January 8 to Madhesh Province President and Chief Minister Krishna Yadav, requesting candidacy consideration in accordance with party statutes. Acting on this application, the province committee intervened and recommended Yadav’s name to the Central Working Committee, citing procedural omission at the lower levels.

According to Yadav, the recommendation letter has already been registered at the party’s central office, officially placing his candidacy into the final decision-making process.

“My Name Was Dropped Under Pressure,” Says Yadav

Yadav has openly stated that his name was removed at the regional and district levels due to pressure from senior leaders and internal factional politics. However, he emphasized that he chose a constitutional and institutional route within the party, ultimately securing provincial backing.

Political observers view this development as a symbolic challenge to entrenched leadership structures and a growing demand for transparency and inclusiveness in candidate selection.

Background of the Candidacy Process

For the upcoming February 21 parliamentary election, Yadav had initially applied on December 22, submitting the required NPR 11,000 application fee to the regional committee. At that time, four names—including Yadav’s—were recommended to the district committee.

However, within days, the regional committee forwarded only three names, excluding Yadav. In response, he submitted another written appeal on December 29 to Parsa District Congress President Janardan Singh Kshetri. Despite this, the district committee again excluded his name while forwarding recommendations to the province committee—a fact later confirmed by Madhesh Province General Secretary Brihaspati Krishna Shrestha.

Rakesh Yadav: A Grassroots-Grown Gen-Z Leader

A permanent resident of Bahudarmai Municipality-2, Sisiyadi Bairiya, Parsa, Rakesh Yadav is widely recognized as a grassroots political organizer. He is a former President of Nepal Student Union (NSU), former Secretary of the Free Students’ Union at Thakur Ram Multiple Campus, Birgunj, and former District Secretary of Nepal Tarun Dal.

Having emerged through student politics and youth wings, Yadav represents a generation that emphasizes issue-based politics, institutional reform, and youth participation, resonating strongly with Gen-Z voters.

Political Significance and Broader Implications

Yadav’s recommendation from the province to the center sends a clear message within the Nepali Congress: youth voices can challenge traditional power structures from within the system. If finalized, his candidacy could reshape electoral dynamics in Parsa-2 and energize young voters seeking representation, accountability, and generational change.

As the party prepares for a crucial election, the case of Rakesh Yadav has become more than a nomination—it is a test of the party’s commitment to generational transition and internal democracy.
