The first day of the new year, Baisakh 1, 2082 B.E., is being celebrated with joy and happiness across the country by exchanging greetings.

Today is the day when the Sun ends its transit in Pisces and begins its transit in Aries, also known as Vaishakh Sankranti, or Aries Sankranti, and the first day of the year.

“Since Vikram is one of the 60 Samvatsaras and is related to Aditya Sun, it is called Vikramaditya Samvat. Vikram Samvat runs according to the movement and position of the sun. It includes the characteristics of the Shaka Samvat and the practical qualities of the Ishvi Samvat,” he said.

Scholars say that this is a scientific year because the old year of this Samvat ends when the Sun enters Aries and leaves Pisces. The alignment of the solar and lunar phases also occurred in this Samvat. The Vikram Samvat began 3,044 years after the beginning of the Kali Yuga.

Today, every person evaluates the success or failure of the work they did last year and formulates and resolves to prevent the failure from recurring and achieve success.

Today, people take a bath early in the morning, clean their homes and courtyards, visit temples and monasteries for worship and darshan, eat sweets, meet friends and acquaintances and exchange greetings. Nepalis living in any corner of the world celebrate Baisakh 1st as the New Year.
