Sher Bahadur Deuba Urges Former King Shah Not to Hope for Return of Monarchy

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the monarchy will not be restored through wishful thinking, targeting former King Gyanendra Shah.

Addressing a program organized by the party’s Human Rights Department at the party’s central office on Thursday, President Deuba claimed that many Nepalis, including BP Koirala, Ganeshman Singh, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Girija Prasad Koirala, fought and established a democratic republic in Nepal, and that this system cannot be abolished now. He urged all Nepali people not to be complacent, saying that the republic came as per the will of the people through the Constituent Assembly.

President Deuba said that the Nepali people have accepted the republic and urged former King Shah not to hope for a return to monarchy. He said that there is no fear in the country now, noting that the country has achieved inclusive, proportional representation and a republican constitution that includes all from the Himalayas, hills and Terai. Claiming that democracy cannot be abolished under any circumstances, he urged people to work towards making democracy, democracy and republic permanent.

President Deuba said that everyone is represented in the Constitution of Nepal. He said that everyone is also included in the rights granted by the statute.
