Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the sports sector should not be linked with politics. Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the ‘National High Performance Center and Sports Science Lab’ on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli made this statement targeting Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary.
Oli said that politics is being played out regarding the Nepal Premier League (NPL), and said that the game will not be stopped.
“Only political parties will come to the government. After coming to the government, the sector in which the work is done should be developed. If it is agriculture, then agriculture should be developed, if it is industry, then industry should be developed. Politics should not be done there,” Oli said. “If it is sports, then sports should be developed. Sports should be taken forward. There is no space for ‘politics’ there. ‘There is no space’ for politics. Whoever comes, should not do politics but focus on sports.”
There is a dispute between the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) regarding the NPL. Amid the ongoing dispute between the two bodies over the accounting of the NPL, Prime Minister Oli directed Minister Chaudhary to work on the development of sports.
Objecting to the directive to halt NPL activities, Oli urged CAN to accelerate preparations for NPL.
