Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol has raised questions about the role of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
During an interaction with journalists on Saturday, she said that the CIAA should investigate the repeated controversial allegations of corruption in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
In the context of the accusations being made by the Metropolitan Mayor Balendra Sah (Balen) and Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, Dangol said that the CIAA should investigate the matter and settle the dispute.
She also objected to the video of the metropolitan board meeting being made public, saying it was one-sided and incomplete.
“Why is the authority silent when so many corruption cases are raised? The authority must investigate the metropolis,” she said. “People should not be confused by giving incomplete information. Is there just one person who is corrupt or is it organized? This should be investigated. The authority’s silence is not good.”
Deputy Mayor Dangol has said that the Kathmandu Tower located in the old bus park, which has become the most controversial, is unnecessary. She argues that the land taken from the public should be used as a bus park.
“I have always said people first. The land was taken from the people to build a bus park where the Kathmandu Tower is being built,” she said. “It is wrong to erect a building in the bus park and do business. The government should use the land for the same purpose and objective for which it was taken.”
