CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai has urged that the dispute and tension arising from the cable car project being built in Pathibhara, Taplejung, be resolved through dialogue.
Bhattarai made this request while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, in the backdrop of more than 24 people being injured in a clash between the protesting ‘No Cable Car’ group and the police on Magh 2.
Bhattarai, who is also a member of the House of Representatives from Taplejung, has made public a 19-point opinion on the under-construction Pathibhara Devi (Mukumlung) cable car, stating that no activity that disrupts tension and social harmony should take place.
“Pathibhara, which is geographically remote, should be easily accessible. There is no doubt that a cable car would be a suitable option for the elderly, children, and the disabled,” he said. “It is estimated that up to one million pilgrims and tourists will reach Pathibhara annually through the construction of the cable car and the promotion of the glory of Pathibhara. This is believed to increase employment, income generation, marketing of local products, and commercialization of Taplejung residents, and contribute to the overall prosperity of Taplejung.”
